Baracuta

Before founding Baracuta, the Miller family had been operating in the rainwear sector for many years. This extensive experience in rainwear would prove invaluable later on. The factory supplied brands such as Burberry, Aquascutum, and Marks & Spencer at the time, demonstrating a commitment to consistently offering the best in their production of high-quality raincoats, which laid solid foundations for the company's future. The Miller brothers established Baracuta in 1937 in the heart of Manchester, one of the rainiest cities in the UK. Their mission was to create an outdoor clothing brand that offered protection from the rainy British climate without sacrificing elegance. They chose an exotic name believing that their brand would also reach overseas. The gears were set in motion when John and Isaac Miller identified a gap in the market, introducing a practical yet elegant golf jacket. Regulars at the Manchester Golf Club, they saw fellow players struggling with awkward movements and discomfort in their coats and jackets during games, especially in rainy conditions. Determined to find a solution, in 1937 they conceived the iconic G9. The name was not coincidental: "G" stands for Golf and "9" alludes to the 9 holes of the golf course. Feeling that something was still missing, the Miller brothers set out to find a feature that would make their brand recognizable and stand out from all others. In 1938, they finally produced one of the world's most famous jackets, the first Harrington G9. The work done in the small Manchester clothing factory was the beginning of something very special, which then made its way to the shores of Australia, where the G9 officially made its entrance thanks to the publicity garnered by celebrities, athletes, TV, films, newspapers, and magazines. Baracuta celebrated its first 70 years in business, paying tribute to the connection between the iconic Harrington jacket and the celebrities who wore it over the years. This immense celebration led to the design of three limited edition G9s in honor of Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen, and Frank Sinatra. The company experienced growth both locally and internationally, becoming particularly popular in the 1940s and 1950s, especially in the United States, and then landed on the shores of Australia, where the G9 officially made its entry thanks to the publicity given to it by celebrities, athletes, TV, films, newspapers and magazines.
