The brand was born between Grosseto and the beaches of Maui, Hawaii. The first water sports products signed by the young windsurfer Roberto Ricci are filled with typically Italian creativity: this is how special boards, unique pieces designed and handcrafted, destined to win windsurfing competitions worldwide, came to be. The first collections are based on ideas related to technical clothing for water sports, inspired by nature at its antipodes: the Mediterranean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. This dual inspiration allowed for the creation of garments capable of combining the Mediterranean culture tied to classical beauty and the serenity of a "friendly" sea, with a more dynamic concept linked to performance, essential when facing the ocean. Two very different aspects that manage to coexist and complement each other. From 1989 to 1994, RRD created prototypes of windsurfing boards and beachwear, but the first collection of surf shorts, t-shirts, and Bermuda shorts was born in 1994. In 1995, Ricci founded a new company specialized in clothing (Montecristo Srl) together with creative director Roberto Bardini. A company destined to change the future of outerwear. The innovation and constant research that come from the world of water sports have made it possible to create high-tech garments in continuous evolution, unique products that combine experience and innovation. Each piece in the collection, stripped of any superfluous element and reinterpreted in a techno-tailored key by creative director and CEO Roberto Bardini, has shown the true soul of the brand's philosophy: tailored cuts and high-tech fabrics, glamorous lines, and material performance are the hallmarks of RRD style. Garments crafted to perfection, in perfect Italian style, capable of telling an authentic story that encompasses research and experience, attention to detail, and design. The SURFLEX® fabric is the distinctive and advanced material thanks to RRD - robertoriccidesigns' experimental research. For over nine years, thanks to the company's water sports heritage, also known for producing wetsuits, this fabric has become the most used in all RRD collections.
