The name of our brand has its origins in the battle that took place in our lands and which was crucial in the development of the War of the Spanish Succession. On 25 April 1707, the Bourbon troops, led by the Duke of Berwick, defeated the Austracist troops in a battle that would open the doors to the kingdom of Valencia, of vital importance for Bourbon interests and which would finally proclaimed Philip V king of Spain. In the last third of the last century, our footwear manufacturing company decided to invest in the development of a product of high quality, comfort and longevity, qualities provided by Goodyear Welt manufacturing, thus giving birth to our Berwick 1707 brand. Through a combination of technology and craftsmanship in highly specialized tasks requiring the know-how of many years of experience, the Berwick 1707 and Berwick 1707 Premium Grade shoes are carefully crafted items that will meet the expectations of the most demanding user and will accompany you faithfully and step by step over the years. We must underline that all components of our shoes are manufactured entirely in our facilities from raw materials with the standards of quality and care for the environment that distinguish the European Union. Virtually all the raw materials we use are of European origin. Goodyear Welt manufacturing began on January 24, 1871 when Charles Goodyear Jr. patented a machine for sewing leather seams, a task previously done by hand. In 1883 Jan Ernst Matzeliger patented the automatic sewing machine. Sydney W. Winslow later purchased these patents, founding the United Shoe Machine Company, whose machines are still in use today, and which contributed to the development of the industrial manufacturing process, increasing production exponentially, creating thousands of jobs and reducing the price of shoes by 50%. Today the Berwick 1707 is produced in Almansa with the process that Charles Goodyear Jr. patented about 150 years ago, controlling production vertically through a complex industrial organization, so that every single phase of the shoe's manufacturing, even those that are normally outsourced , such as the construction of the heel or the production of the sole, are carried out in the same factory, which favors cost containment and quality control.
